Shogakuken, publishers of Urusei Yatsura, Ranma ½, and numerous other manga series, announced Wednesday their newest, fully-computerized project. Made possible by a backing by Fujitsu Business Systems and Zapa Digital Arts, "Web Manga" promises to be a 3-D version of manga. The first series for the project is Urusei Yatsura, a demo version of which is playable now at http://www.webmanga.com/.

The site will be available for one month (closes on November 15), and requires a Windows 95 machine, running Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 and DirectX 5.0, as well as 32 megabytes of RAM. The site also utilizes Macromedia Shockwave Flash technology.

"We are very excited to be offering for the first time in the history of the Internet, what its future promises to be" said Mr. Yoshiaki Takahashi, general producer of WebManga for Shogakukan, Inc. "a truly 3-D experience without the headaches of downloading multiple plug-ins."

ANN's review of the site is available here.
